Breakaway
BREAKAWAY is a temporary respite care program sponsored by Grace Church to benefit families with special needs in the Lee’s Summit area. Once a month, on the third Saturday, trained volunteers provide an evening of fun for children with special needs and their siblings. The volunteers provide specialized care for each child and participates in pre-planned activities and events according to each child’s interests. Nurses are present to assist with any medical needs. Parents check-in the children at 5:30pm and BREAKAWAY for a few hours to reconnect with each other.
These parents rarely ever get a chance to “go out” together so this is the perfect opportunity to have dinner and take in a movie or maybe do some shopping. Meanwhile the children are having the time of their lives with trained BREAKAWAY volunteers.
